Interesting quote and following research to a point

Land of brown heath and shaggy wood,
Land of the mountain and the flood!" -Scott

I stumbled upon this quote in a book and thought I'd do some brief research about it. What I found was the quote was written many times in many different works during the 19th century. In particular the mid 30's through the mid 40's but not restricted to this time period. According to site linked below the author of this verse was Francis Bennoch who wrote these lyrics for a song speaking of his homeland, Scotland. Here's a link to information about Francis http://www.scotsites.co.uk/ebooks/modernminstrelfrancisbennoch.htm

However, I found the quote published as early as 1827 in which the writer was speaking of Italy. The novel was Continental Adventures by Charlotte Anne Eaton.

While I love the research of tracking this kind of information down, I also need to be practical and know that the time required exceeds the time I can give to this endeavor. So, I'll leave it to all of you who follow this blog. When you stumble upon these lines, drop me a line and tell me who you believe originally penned these words.
